"As data demands grow, so does the challenge of making fast and energy-efficient optoelectronic devices. Current solutions often sacrifice space for speed. We're working on a better electro-optic modulator, combining high-speed performance, energy efficiency, and a compact size for on-chip integration.

Our solution: We've added a double-layer graphene modulator to a Silicon photonics platform, achieving impressive 60 GHz speed, compact size, and low energy usage (2.25 fJ/bit). We've also improved efficiency with a special cavity, reducing voltage needs by 40 times while maintaining good signal quality. These compact, efficient, and high-speed modulators boost photonic chip performance, benefiting signal processing, sensors, and special processors like those used in AI."
